In the heart of Greenwich Village above a historic Italian Super Club, Architect Gil Schafer renovated this 900 square foot apartment in exuberant style. Layering with ornament and detail, the residence was featured in AD as a vibrant approach to contextualism in the Village.
When the property was sold, the new owner commissioned Jed Lind Interiors and Office of Objects Architecture to edit the interior and complete the property with updated systems. With the removal of the transom window AC unit, a deal was struck with NYC’s Landmarks Preservation Commission to restore both transoms to their original detailing, rather than Schafer’s operable hopper, letting in even more natural light.
The result is an uplifting airy home with details celebrating material beauty and subtle play between the decorative and minimal.
